Trust in the Lord!

When Everything Feels Uncertain, You Can Still Trust the Lord

Have you ever sensed something was wrong but couldn’t explain it? You pray for wisdom, but answers don’t come. There’s a quiet uneasiness and a whisper from God trying to guide you. You want to protect your family, make the right decision, and follow God’s leading, yet everything feels uncertain.

As a wife, a mother, or even a young woman growing in faith, you may find those moments overwhelming.

Who do you trust? What do you do when things don’t add up?

I remember a season like that so clearly.

We hadn’t set out to buy a house that day. Our plan was simply to visit friends a couple of hours away, as they were searching for a church and a homeschool community. During the visit, everything appeared normal at first, though beneath the surface there was a subtle unease I couldn’t ignore. But it was nothing you could put your finger on, and I dismissed it as a new situation. This was the beginning of a challenging season for us.

In the middle of that uncertainty, one phrase kept repeating in my heart:

“Trust in the Lord. Trust in the Lord. Trust in the Lord.”

It wasn’t just a passing thought; it was strong, steady, and persistent, like God was anchoring me before I even knew why I would need it.

As we drove back and forth between our trailer and the house we were preparing to move into, the Lord began forming these words in my heart:

Trust in the Lord, trust in the Lord,
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.

Trust in the Lord forever,
For in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.

At the time, I didn’t realize how much I would need those words even more later. Looking back now, I can see that God was preparing my heart before the storm ever arrived.

Everything changed unexpectedly soon after. An opportunity arose to buy a house, something that had not been part of our plan. Despite our inexperience, we decided to take the next step. As we began renovations, we also rented out our trailer to a young couple with a little girl. This decision marked the start of an unforeseen and difficult chapter.

At first, everything seemed fine.

But not long after, things began to unravel.

We discovered disturbing things on our computer that we hadn’t moved from our old house until a month after our friends moved in. Things we had never put there. Then came a panicked phone call from the woman. She had found inappropriate material, contacted the police, and fled to a safe house with her daughter.

Suddenly, we found ourselves caught in the middle of confusion, fear, and a heartbreaking situation involving abuse, instability, and danger. With children involved and difficult decisions before us, we often felt unsure.

If you are in a season like this, you probably know the weight of uncertainty and worry. It’s normal to feel afraid or overwhelmed when the future is unclear or when you are facing the unimaginable. Trust that you aren’t alone, and acknowledge how hard it truly is. These moments are never easy, but they became a key turning point in our journey.

And yet… in the middle of it all, that same truth held me steady.

One simple way I learned to refocus was to pause, take a deep breath, and meditate on my favorite passage in Isaiah 26:3–4 KJV.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the LORD for ever:
For in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.”

This situation wasn’t peaceful.

But God gave peace anyway.

We kept bringing our minds back to God repeatedly. When fear rose or confusion pressed in and answers were lacking, we chose to trust.

Not unthinkingly.

Not naively.

But intentionally.

We learned something in that season I’ve never forgotten:

Looking back, I see something essential: you don’t need to understand everything to trust God. During those uncertain days, I often reminded myself that trusting God wasn’t about how I felt. It was a choice I made again and again, especially when fear tried to rule my thoughts. Whenever the worst-case scenarios crept in, I would return to the truth God had placed in my heart:

Trust in the Lord, trust in the Lord,
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.

Trust in the Lord forever,
for in the Lord Jehovah
is everlasting strength for me.
In perfect peace,
mind stayed on Thee.

And that became a song that I continue to sing even today.

I wrote these words in a notebook during that season of transition. Looking back more than two decades later, the song still reminds me of the same truth: God has not changed. The circumstances changed. The people changed. The challenges changed. But the Lord remained faithful.

Trust grows by bringing thoughts back to Him. Peace follows trust, not understanding.

Keep bringing your mind back to Him, because many of life’s greatest battles are won or lost in our thoughts.

Trust isn’t a one-time decision—it’s something you return to repeatedly, especially when life feels uncertain, and anxiety creeps in.

And maybe that’s where you are right now.

Maybe something in your life feels off.

Maybe you’re navigating a situation you didn’t expect.

Maybe you’re trying to protect your family while also trying to hear God clearly.

You’re not alone.

And you’re not without guidance.

The same God who whispered “Trust in the Lord” in my uncertainty is speaking to you, too.

He is your strength.

He is your peace.

He is steady when everything else feels unstable.

Invitation

Today, when worry begins to pull your attention toward your circumstances, pause and pray through this simple refrain that the Lord placed in my heart:

Trust in the Lord, trust in the Lord,
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart.

Trust in the Lord forever,
for in the Lord Jehovah

is everlasting strength for me.
In perfect peace,
mind stayed on Thee.

Let it remind you where your strength comes from. Let it redirect your thoughts back to the One who holds every detail of your life.

When your mind starts racing, gently return to this truth:

I can trust the Lord.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the LORD for ever:
For in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.”

(Isaiah 26:3–4 KJV).

Let this song be your anchor, not only in moments of calm, but especially when you are standing in the middle of the unknown. Choose, even when it feels hard, to trust Him right now. Reach out to Him, hold tight to His promises, and allow His peace to settle your heart. Take that step today. He is waiting for you.

Because even when circumstances feel anything but peaceful, the Lord remains faithful.

Peace comes when your mind stays on Him, not your circumstances.
