Am I thankful in the midst of the storm?
Sometimes life feels like too much all at once.
You’re caring for others, carrying responsibilities, and quietly holding questions you don’t always have answers to. You’re doing what needs to be done—but inside, there’s a longing for peace… for reassurance… for something steady to hold onto.
I remember a season like that so clearly.
I had two little ones just 17 months apart—a baby and a toddler who still loved to be rocked to sleep. My days were full, and my nights were tender but tiring. Each evening, I sat and rocked my little girl, holding her close as the house grew quiet.
Around that same time, someone we knew was struggling deeply. She was diabetic and desperate for healing. One day, she left to visit the healing rooms in Spokane, hoping for a miracle.
And then… we never heard from her again.
We didn’t know if she was healed. We didn’t know what happened next. There was just silence—and questions that lingered.
It’s in those kinds of moments that trust is tested.
Not when everything makes sense, but when it doesn’t.
One night, as I rocked my daughter to sleep, those thoughts were still with me. But instead of answers, something else came.
A song.
I didn’t plan it. I didn’t sit down to write anything. It just began to flow—words and melody together, rising in that quiet moment:
Thank you, thank you, Jesus.
Thank you, thank you, Jesus, for Your blood on Calvary.
Thank you, thank you, Lord, for the trials You send our way.
Thank you, thank you, Spirit, that trials do not stay,
but that You do…
As I kept singing, something shifted in me.
The circumstances hadn’t changed. The questions were still there. But my focus was changing.
Instead of looking at the uncertainty, I was being drawn back to who God is.
Faithful. Kind. Pure. Steady.
The One who remains when everything else feels unclear.
The song continued:
You are the Lord of Hosts,
and Your timing is sure.
Keep my eyes on You,
and not the storm.
That became the anchor.
Because storms will come, questions will come. Situations will arise that we don’t understand and can’t control.
But we are not left without something to hold onto.
We can choose where we fix our eyes.
The truth is, God is still in control of the storm—even when we don’t see the outcome yet. His power, His glory, His victory—our uncertainty does not shake them.
And sometimes, trust doesn’t look like having all the answers.
Sometimes, it looks like saying “thank you” in the middle of the unknown.
Thank you, Lord, that You control the storm.
All power and glory belong to You alone.
The victory and majesty belong to Your throne.
So if you’re in a place today where things don’t make sense… where you’re carrying questions or waiting for answers…
Start here:
Lift your eyes.
Go back to who God is.
And if you don’t have the words—borrow mine.
Whisper “thank you” in the middle of your storm.
Not because everything is resolved, but because He is still faithful.
And that has never changed.
And let His Spirit flow through you.
